I don’t have much to say about the election. I am happy about some things and unhappy about others. I will continue to live for God and not for man. I voted and I am pleased with who and what I voted for.
There will be turmoil and critique at all times. I have no doubt of that. But I would hope that of all things we would differ on, that all of America can come together on this. This week is history and special.

When Christians react to elections with despair and panic, they [demonstrate] that their faith is in the wrong place…Salvation is not something that Caesar holds in his hand, whether to give or withhold.

I watched some of McCain’s speech tonight. It was as I suspected, a bit dull. Obama knows how to talk. But that kind of scares me as well
I am not one for the conventions. I am not into rhetoric and hype and both parties will be full of it during the conventions. (no pun intended)
We were watching CNN. I tried watching one of the big 3, but they wouldn’t quite talking. I turned it to CNN and no one was talking so I went with it.
Here’s where I am going. After the convention was over, I listened a little to the media’s opinion of the speech. I didn’t hear much I was surprised with. Eventually they started discussing what it will take for McCain to win. Then I heard this statement.
“He will have to win the vote of both the Hockey Mom and the Walmart Mom.”
What?
These commentators went on to explain what the hockey mom was. They even pointed out where they live in this country. They clearly described the hockey mom’s as the higher income influential women in the country. The walmart mom’s were not given a description, but were still used to describe a group of women.
What? Did they just call high income women hockey mom’s and low income women walmart mom’s?
Am I missing something here? Did they just place women into two categories, rich and poor?
Does this bother you? It’s bugging the crap out of me.
In our recent discussions regarding politics and preception, I was reminded of something. My own faults. I am not one to seek out the issues of others. I am most definitely not one to try and prove people wrong. But in the midst of discussion, their is inevitably the opportunity to defend myself and in doing so, I very often point fingers or make claims.
Yesterday, I read something on a great blog by Stephen Brewster. He said,
“There are times you just have to decide you are going to be a problem solver and figure it out. Are your actions solving problems or starting them? Are you committed to figuring things out or pointing them out (usually the problem).”
This statement nailed me. In wanting to be a solver, am I just becoming the problem?
A great reminder for me, hopefully a good for one for you as well.

There is no balance. It’s left or right. Wrong or Right. Good or Bad. Conservative or Liberal.
Drives me nuts!
What will it take to change it? Do we even know what’s wrong with it? I have my own opinions and I don’t even begin to declare that my thoughts have the answers. But I know what frustrates me. Division! Whoever is in control get’s the say. Whoever is in control is good and the other side is evil. This goes both ways. Whatever is the greatest cause is right and to even speak against it makes you wrong. It’s constant division. Then the Christian community gets involved and makes moral stands based on title.
I understand that we will not see eye to eye on everything, but good grief!
So, tonight, I did not watch the DNC. But don’t let that speak for anything, cause I won’t be watching the RNC either. Why? Cause it’s hype. It has no purpose but to rally troops. I am so fed up with rhetoric, that to watch one of these events would leave me exhausted.
In the midst of all of it though, I believe there was a bright spot. I heard something good. People believe that if you do something for the democrats that you are supporting them. They believe if you agree with something the Republicans have as a platform that you are obviously Republican. Hogwash. You believe what you believe. I agree with many things from both parties and completely disagree with many more.
So tonight, Donald Miller prayed at the DNC. I got to see the video because Carlos over at Ragamuffinsoul recorded it for us. As I watched it, my heart smiled. Unfortunately people are arguing over whether or not Donald is Democrat or selling out or (insert something else here). Stop! Division!
It’s what drives me nuts in politics!!! Don’t make prayer political. I don’t believe Donald did and I don’t believe we should either. I believe Donald set aside politics. I believe Donald focused on who He serves. When Christianity Today asked Donald, why he accepted the invitation to pray at the DNC, Donald’s response was, “Somebody calls you and asks you to pray, you do. “
I think it was beautiful and God’s name was spoken in the midst of a national broadcast that speaks to millions of people. Praise the Lord.
