Jazz Weekend…In Video

So, here is all of Saturday in 1 minutes and 30 seconds. That day for me lasted from 10AM to 10:30PM. After watching the video, it looks like no one was there, ut you are seeing one side of the theater. there about 700 seats in there and the attendance has been pretty decent.

Anyway…Enjoy

A Weekend of Jazz…Gear

So, today we got everything setup. I am in a great venue and excited to have the opportunity to hang here for the weekend. Thought I’d give you a few pics and a run down of the gear.

Here’s a view of the theater from stage. They renovated a couple years back and they did a great job with it. the place is beautiful.

Here’s my view from Front Of House

And here is my mix position. The console is a 40 channel Crest VX. It’s got a couple of years on it, but it is a great sounding analog desk.

Here is my Rack for Front of House. Sorry it isn’t clearer. I had no light and was going with the camera phone.

I am running:
4 DBX 1066
2 DBX 166XL
TC Electronics M-One
EQ’s are Symetrix 533e’s

Mains are L’acoustic Arcs w/SB 28 Subs
Monitors are Radian Micro Wedges
Power is Lab Gruppen LA48a’s
Processing is a BSS MiniDrive

A Weekend of Jazz

I am looking forward to this weekend. I will be the Front of House engineer for a whole weekend of Jazz. Every year our valley puts together the annual Jazz Jubilee. It really is a blast. There are 7 venues that seat anywhere from 50 to 750. I will be in the Craterian theater which seats 700. I can’t wait. I am able to hook up with one of the local sound companies for a couple gigs a year. It helps them out and I love doing it.

There are all varieties of Jazz at this event. Everything from a couple local acts to some wonderful national acts and everything in between. Traditional to New Orleans to some great modern Jazz as well. I am really anxious for a couple of groups. I love Gator Beat and I can’t wait for Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums. Both are non-traditional to say the least, but a blast to listen to and work with. It looks like my venue is hosting,”a Spotlight on Mel Torme” both Firday and Saturday. Should be interesting :)

Here is my schedule for the weekend.

FRIDAY:

SATURDAY:

SUNDAY:

I love that Sunday starts with a great gospel band. They’ve done this each year. We get to have church at the Jazz jubilee.

So, today we start setting up. I will take some pics of the rig. I’ve got some great gear to work with this year. Even better than when I ran sound at the fair. I’ll post each evening with high lights…or low lights of the day. Should be fun. Wish you all could be here hanging with me.

So, what are you favorite Jazz bands or artists? If you don’t like Jazz, what are your favorite bands or artists?
