Absolute Truth…
Does it exist? Is it real? Can truth be absolute? Is there truth at all?
I say…yes.
I think a large movement in “spirituality” today, is to allow for the thoughts and feelings of others. No matter what you believe, or what you think you know, no one has a lock on truth. Absolute truth does not exist.
But, I don’t agree with this. Absolute truth does exist.
Im writing this post from a little coffee shop in Nashville, Tn. Tammy and I are here this week to join with others at re:create. An amazing gathering of artists, musicians and leaders, looking to connect with God and each other in a deeper way. Yesterday, we had the opportunity to join friends at Crosspoint.tv. Pastor Blake spoke. He made a statement. “Truth is not a what, truth is a who“.
I believe that this is the key to the argument of absolute truth. Yes, we will have philosophical differences. Yes, we will disagree on motive or reason. Yes, we will have moments where we can’t see eye to eye. But when we start with truth being a who…there can be no discussion. You either believe in Jesus, as the bible says He is, or you don’t. But it doesn’t change the truth of who He is. It is absolute. Jesus is who He said He was. He is alive. And He is coming again.
So, all that stuff in between, really is not the issue. And I believe that the fight for or against “absolute truth” is held in that arena, way too often. We should not be fighting over the non-essentials, because they do not hold truth.
Only Jesus does…
“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me”
-John 14:6

Well said. Enjoy your conference & it was great to meet you yesterday.

Amen.
Wow. Said so simply. How can one argue that! I guess by calling the Bible fiction. That’s where we need to work on turning the light on. Not arguing with each other, but walking side by side proclaiming the truth. And the way. And the life.

There will be many that will never believe the Bible and what it teaches. But choosing not to believe does not disregard truth.
I could choose to not believe that water is wet…but…
I may steal that “water is wet”! There is this guy with 25+ years in recovery that truly believes that the Bible is a made-up story. Written by man. Sometimes I feel inadequate to share that it is not. What is that fear thing anyway. I love sharing my recovery, I need to use the same enthusiasm when I share with walk with Jesus. There is strength in the words of the Bible and I need to use them to continue making me strong in my beliefs. It is the Truth.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s our responsibility to prove the Bible as truth. We just need to shed the light of Jesus on others. The Spirit will reveal Gods truth in peoples hearts.
I don’t think the thought in my head always come out right when I type them!! The truth is in the Who. Most definitely! Sometimes I just want people to get it! But, I do realize it’s not my job to convert them and sometimes I just feel I’m an inadequate light. That I’M the one at fault (I know that I’m not, but sometimes those icky feelings come around). Everyone should want what God has to offer. Himself. That’s the Who.

“Truth is not a what, truth is a who“
AMEN…God is Absolute all the time.
It’s funny because the statement, “There is no absolute truth” is either false or it refutes itself. If there’s no truth, how can that statement be true?!! LOL!
Great post Brent, I couldn’t agree more! Hope you guys are having/had fun in Nashville. Next time you’re in Nashville, just fly into Chicago before heading home!!
Love this. And a great way to counter the “This is my truth, tell my yours” culture we live in…
Wow, great post! When you think of truth as a WHO instead of a WHAT, it really can change ones perspective. Hope you enjoyed the conference!
