Dig In
My Dad has been teaching us on Wednesday nights at Table Rock. We just went through a series entitled “A Mind Renewed By God”. He actually wrote a book on this subject and we spent time going through it together.
A couple of weeks ago, he read a verse in Hosea that stuck with me. In Hosea 10, God is speaking to Israel and challenging them to dig in and be ready for His return. As I read through the passage, I see it as so appropriate for the time we are going through.
Hosea 10:12 says, ‘Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord that he may come and shower righteousness upon you.’
I absolutely LOVE THIS! A constant state of keeping the ground soft and ready for seed. In the rest of the passage, God goes onto to show Israel what will happen if they do not obey. It says that Israel relied on their own power and might and in doing so, sowed seeds of wickedness. Sound like us? Yup. We will continue to reap what we have sown. But it can be a good thing.
The church is hurting and in many ways splintering, but there are many within that are sowing seeds of righteousness and they are in return harvesting crops of love and being showered with God’s pleasure. Everyday, I hear of the bad in church, but everyday I also see God working in the lives of people. We have to continue to seed what is good and right and truth. And we have to start in our own hearts. Otherwise we will never truly experience God’s work in and around us.

Awesome! Thanks Brent
(I’m going to enjoy your new blogging schedule too)

Great stuff Brent. This has to be the first time in a long time that you’ve blogged 2 days in a row. I’m quite impressed.

And, I am working to keep the rhythm going! Loved your worship post! thinking about how to respond or if I even need to. It was right on.
Ahh… I love this.
Kind of makes me think of that phrase: Live a life worthy of your calling.
Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to tell others what is right [or wrong] that we forget it starts with living our own lives by example. I talked to my dad today and he was out tilling the field and getting it ready for planting. I’m looking at that conversation in a whole new light right now. Good timing.

This post is better, now that your here
This is so good. Like Sarah said, “tilling” we need to keep tilling, sowing, planting, pruning, and watering. Someday, we’ll see the righteousness of God.
He’s promised us that.
It comforts me that HE is life’s gardener.
Great post!

Toby´s last blog post…I am Sure of This
The only thing i’d change about this post (were such up to me) is the title.
Dig In can be read by some as: hold your ground and take a stand against change.
I would have called it ‘Plow On’
‘Turning over’ the hardness of our hearts so that He can grow a better harvest than the one we choose for ourself in a freshly loosened soil.
It’s all in one’s perspective i guess?
