Thursday Swap…

Today, we have the privilege of enjoying an actual written post on my blog :)

My amazing wife Tammy has a weekly post entitled “Thursday Swap”. For some reason she felt it appropriate to swap posts with me today. Probably just to get me to write something!. Here’s the deal. I have written an amazing post for today, but it isn’t here. It’s there. What is here is the amazing post Tammy has written for me. So, without further ado...

okie dokie, boys. mama’s here now. it’s gonna be O-kay.

what?

seriously. some all of you might have noticed that brenty is quite the inconsistent blogger. its not that he doesnt enjoy his blog, he just needs a schedule, a routine laid out for him. trust me, i live with the man…i know what im talking about.

so…this is where we come in! we’re gonna set up a schedule for him. thats right. we’re taking over!

im gonna throw out the idea i had. im kinda thinking…thematic days. each day can have an assigned topic – a theme.

mondays - review of the weekend at church. sunday setlist – message points – highs & lows, etc…

tuesdays - could be something that stood out from another blog, a twitter discussion, an interesting video. something he may want to elaborate on.

wednesdays - i think he should dedicate this day to “hot points”. see his post over at my place to get a better idea on this.

thursday - brent is a great father! and our kids provide a ton of material to write about. he could possibly share something about the kids, parenting, do’s/dont’s.

friday - free day. not a non-post day. but i think friday can be used to further discussion about an earlier post from the week or tech stuff…which he loves!

this is just an idea. not set in stone…at all. id like you all to jump in here and share your thoughts and ideas too. if you have something completely different that you think would be fun, inspiring and creative for brent to blog…tell us.

i should say, also, that he wants to blog. he doesnt feel he has to – he has just felt theres been no direction. and thats where we come in.

so its open to you now! what are your ideas to keep brent motivated and on schedule?!

Hmmm… He never really talks about himself.

He talks about topics, hotspots, ministry, and so forth, But what is God talking to Him about.

I love to hear a true worshippers heart to encourage and edify my own stuff.

I’m sorry maybe that was too direct.

What about a tech day? You blog about tech stuff sometimes, what about one day a week. I would enjoy it a lot!

Yes, that needs to continue to happen. I like the ideas that are coming, because I need some system. Otherwise I just…don’t do it :)

It will probably become a post of what not to do when leading your family. But I agree. I need to post on the family stuff :)

Tam. I’m shocked. You forgot the FOOD posts.

    YES, PLEASE!!!!

Brent, remember when we talked on New Year’s and I told you how much I appreciated the [few] posts you did about a topic that meant something to you, where you also included links to bible passages that were relevant? They were like mini-lessons [like this one, for example: http://brentinworship.com/blog/2008/11/truly-faithful/. You could do more of that. :)

I also really love when you guys put up videos. I love feeling like I’m in the room with you, sharing life. And, I totally agree with Heidi… tell us more about YOU. You as a kid. You before Tam. You as a dad. You finding a balance with family and ministry.

Looks like my Netvibes may get a little busier now :)

I love those moments Gitz. When something is just so clear. God has a way of taking us through those times. I do need to share about them more.

And, Thursday is Family day. Be watching for it :)

I agree with Heidi (comment #3 above) though you’re response could be true too (‘been there, done that’ a few times, and did find them all beneficial for increasing understanding). I do believe ‘discernment’ (vs. ‘judgment’) IS a gift to be prayed for, so long as it’s motive is love.
Heidi’s comment about ‘what God is speaking to you’ is exactly what I was going to suggest before I even read any of the comments here.

Also, Gitz echoed that concept with:
“posts you did about a topic that meant something to you, where you also included links to bible passages that were relevant? They were like mini-lessons [like this one, for example: http://brentinworship.com/blog/2008/11/truly-faithful/. You could do more of that.”

I agree there too, and if you prefer, I’ll refrain from commenting at all if any of mine in the past have seemed judgmental or taking Scripture out of context. (It does make me wonder when my comments sometimes seem to ‘kill’ any further ones ={!) I can only share what I believe God is telling me through His Word. It’s up to HIM ALONE to whom and how else it applies.(For me at least, that’s the only way to keep from being disturbed by others’ criticisms or too elated by their compliments – and discernment is definitely required for that too =).

I do hope I’ve been true to that perspective, as it has ALWAYS been my desire and prayer for anything I write or say to be received as such.
(2 Tim. 2:15). If I’m not ‘living it’ I’d best not be saying/writing it!

D, I love to share what is happening in my life and what God is doing in and through and around me. this post, hopefully will get me on a system that keeps me accountable to writing. Out of that, those things will be shared.

And please don’t refrain from commenting here or sharing what scripture has taught you. I have always appreciated and learned from your thoughts, as I do with others.

I am SO in the same boat he is in with my blog. It’s sad really. I only posted three times this month. So not acceptable. ;-)

But yes B, the themed days could work for you. Or, you could just do another “Reading Rainbow” to get the ball rolling. ;-)

Ha! I remember the reading rainbow. I have a great friend now because of it. The author of the first book I reviewed.

As to food…there will definitely be food posts on my blog.

So, why don’t you take some of these ideas for yourself. Sound like it could help you too :)

Because my non-blogging status isn’t due to a lack of stuff to blog about. It’s more due to a lack of caring to blog anymore. I’m kind of at a “what’s the point?” point right now. (that sounded funny)

Funny enough, I’m thinking of doing a post about WHY I think I’m done blogging on a regular basis.  An explaination of sorts.

Thanks, that’s good to know re: future comments.
I will definitely try hard not to abuse that trust.

Tam…is this like when I say that Mark WANTS to buy me flowers? Even though he really doesn’t?

I’d be all for a schedule like you suggest. Then again, I’m all for a schedule for my own blog. I just can’t seem to get it together enough to follow one…

I’m sure you know your man better than the rest of us Tam – those seem like a good ’start’.

for my $0.02…. Rain quoted C.S.Lewis on her blog recently, specifically the idea of The Helmsman steering our boat as we row through the ‘waters of life’ upon the open sea.

WE row our own Boat – never looking where we are ‘going’ but with our eyes Firmly Fixed upon the HElmsman who steers us to where we need to go, not where we want to or think, in our finite ignorance, we want to or ’should’ go. Our back to the boat’s prow and direction, just doing the work we are best able to and are best qualified for in our life on the Ocean.

In other words – put what effort in that is necessary to ‘get’ somewhere but leave it up to Him as to what we see that we pass as we ‘row’ as He undoubtedly shows us better things than we can ever choose just for ourselves.

Maybe take a few moments to decide just what it is this blog is for? (in light of the above and the fact you know may have a different understanding of the whole Blog Concept than when you first started it?) :-)

love´s last blog post…This is just TOO bad not to share….

    • inWorship May 1, 2009 at 9:12 am #

Hey Love, I hear ya. Everyday, I am on this journey you write about. I love the schedule that Tam has laid out for me. I think it will encourage me to consistently write about that journey.

As to what this blog is intended for. It was always a journal for me. A place to hash out thoughts. to think through ideas and to share thing I am learning. More recently it has been neglected and more often become a place for continued conversation from the Twitter world. I have enjoyed that, but know it could be more. I think I need to get back to the original intention of journaling. I like the schedule, because it will encourage me to keep going. I mean, even the HElmsman can’t steer, if I’m not rowing :)
