Sitting In A Chair In The Sky!

Last week, we discussed Americans entitlement. My buddy Steve posted this video the other day and I had to bring it over here. Enjoy.

Yesterday I had an interesting conversation with a group of friends while watching our kid’s athletic event… I litterally brought this up… roatry phone and all. We are considered concervative because we wont let our kids text. I indicated my concern for teens walking around with portable offices, while driving, no less. Further remarking on the speed by which we have fast forwarded our kids childhoods compared to ours. Not only did we have a rotary, I come from the batch of adults who remember party lines. Neat you posted this. I might have to kipe it sometime.

    Blessings,
    Roxanne

    Thanks for the link-love!

We need to stop being so self-centered and figure out ways to BE the church in these rotten times. People don’t need a pat on the head, they need hope… I happen to know Who that hope is.

Roxx, we have to constantly check ourselves as parents. Our world is changing and we have to guide our kids through it. Definitely continue pointing them to the “why” and not the “what”. it is more important that they know who they serve and why they serve him than how. Kids need to understand gratitude and not take for granted everything they are and have. Of course we have to understand it first, then we can teach them.

Steve, I know who it is too :)

Funny stuff. We didn’t have a color tv till I was in high school. Now we have like 5 of them. He is absolutely right about being ungrateful when we have the world at our fingertips. I think I do pretty good with not having the latest trend but I know some people who are absolutely insane about it.

Simplify, I think it’s the way of the future.

Scott, I agree with simplifying life, but I do think that technology can be a part of that. I think there are ungrateful people that have it all and ungrateful people that have nothing. It’s all in the heart.

Thanks for sharing this. I am still amazed by flying everytime I do it. People think its always my first time… becasue its just awesome how you can fly across the country in such short time. I have been seeing more and more this year of people taking for granted every stuff. People have multiple cars, phones, computers.. you name it. I think people would have a real problem if they had to go back in time after having all of this technology.

I remember my grandmother had a rotary phone until my Junior year in high school.. (which was about 11 years ago.) I loved using it.

Three longs – two shorts : that was our phone ring on the farm – no rotary dial – a crank – 16 people on the same line – who could eaves drop on your calls. maybe they should go back – put cranks on iphones and put 16 people on the same phone number – just different rings, Brent 3 longs 2 shorts – Tam 1 long 2 shorts – I’d eaves drop on that ring! heh heh!

    Who is this guy, anyway?

@Roxanne – our kids aren’t allowed to have cell phones. you are not alone.

@Scott – I remember the first time I saw Star Trek on a color TV. Whoa!!! Who knew they wore different color shirts?

I work in the information technology business, and other than the fact that I earn a living from technology, I don’t really care for it.

I try to explain to people that technology is not the solution – it is the problem!

Bad, So, do you think money is the problem? Or is it the root of problems? I would place technology in the same class as money. It is a root, but not the problem.

  13. badguy October 27, 2008 at 11:42 am #

…well, money drives the technology and the technology drives money. They are definitely interrelated.

But…I think technology became the problem when innovation “lapped” demand. Advances in technology used to be – “how can we solve this problem?”; nowadays it’s “we have all this capability, how can we use [read:sell] it?”

I get what you are saying; technology in the right hands, and used the right way is not a bad thing.

    Bad,

“But…I think technology became the problem when innovation “lapped” demand. Advances in technology used to be – “how can we solve this problem?”; nowadays it’s “we have all this capability, how can we use [read:sell] it?””

Ya, I agree here. This would be the evil and technology would be the root.
