2.1 – Can I Get an Amen!

iPhone

I have always been an Apple fan. Since day 1 of my computer experience I was learning on an original Apple IIe. Loved it. Ever since word of the iPhone came out, I have been an iPhone fan. I would be one of those that would stick it our no matter what, but I can say that the new software upgrade to 2.0 really made me start to dislike things about my iPhone.

So version 2.1 came out today. Run, do not walk as fast as you can to get this!. Here is the list of updates.

Here is what I have noticed so far.

#1 Contact access
There has been this horrid lag time to access contacts and it has only been on the iPhone since 2.0. I can say it has been fixed. at least from my observation. Click and it opens.

#2 Backup Time
This has been Awful! I would hit sync and leave for dinner, cause I knew it would take up to 30 minutes sometime to back up my iPhone and it wanted to do this every time I plugged the iPhone in. Well, I plugged it in today and it took 60 seconds!

#3 App upgrades
I noticed that every time I either upgraded an app or installed a new one from the iPhone, it would often crash or lock up and I would have to restart to use the new app. Today, I installed a new app and upgraded one. It was smooth, quick and no restarting necessary. ALSO, a huge peeve of mine was fixed as well. In the past, when an app was upgraded from the phone, the app’s widget would be moved to the back page and you had to reorganize when it was done installing. No more! When install is done, the widget is back where it started.

#4 Genius Feature
When iTunes 8 came out this week, I downloaded it right away and was most interested in teh Genius feature. I liked that it would create playlists our of my own library based on the style of a song. Version 2.1 for iPhone has this feature installed as well. it works the same way.

Go to iPod, select playlist and then Genius

Go to iPod, select playlist and then Genius

Select a song from your library

Select a song from your library

A playlist of songs is then created, using the style and genre of the song you selected. You cna then save that playlist for future use and do this again and again till you have multiple playlists.

I am excited to see what happens with the battery life. they claim it’s going to be better. that could mean anything. I charge once a day, but I manually check email. I would love to use the push feature, maybe this will happen now. Also, In our area the 3G network is solid, so I have never had any dropped calls or issues with it. I will curious what these upgrade do to help those of you with 3G issues.

So, I am excited to see what else is going to pop up and work better.

How about you? What have you found?

I’m a touch user and I’m excited to see how it improves things too.

So far this is my thought on the genius thing….it works awesome if you have a lot of music. If you don’t have a lot then Pandora is the way to go. I don’t have a lot.

Tyler, I think you are right about the Genius option. With my the library on my Mac, it has worked awesome.

I love Pandora! It is great for finding stuff I don’t have as well.

Dang Brent, you beat me to it! Actually my phone is working better than every. Because of my 60 apps, backup times were 3 to 4 hours for me. Now, a minute or less. Heck yeah! I don’t really care about the Genius feature. App installations and upgrades take just a few seconds instead of a few minutes. Beautiful job Apple.

Also B – I think I just might be the bigger Apple fan now. ;) I know….it just took a while.

By the way, I love how the Genius feature mixed a little Disturbed in the midst of Muse and Coldplay :)

I am so glad that once I accepted Christ the sin problem was taken care of – no updates, no new versions of salvation, I do admit I have to work at keeping charged up – but usually its my fault when I start to lose power.
