I’m not convinced that Iraq has anything to do with gas prices unless maybe Al Gore is really an Iraqi. Hmmmmmm
I think the real problem is that we haven’t moved on becoming more self sufficient in oil/gasoline production and coal to oil/gasoline while realistically looking to develope affordable alternate energy sources. We knew this was going to be a problem since the 70’s and here we are 30 years later acting supprised.
Keep an eye on Russia because they are gonna control the worlds energy supplies before we know what hit us.
Agree with Scott on his points (and would add Venezuela and some other countries to the list of those who will control the energy).
The gas prices are almost solely due to growing (additional) demand from other countries for a controlled resource. Demand for goods and services from India and China is forcing them to increase their production capabilities and also improving their standard of living. That in turn is causing a need for ever increasing amounts of petroleum.
And we knew about the potential problem long before the 70s. As far back as the late 40s, scientists were telling us that fossil fuels were not a renewable resource.
Of course, in an election year, this isn’t the popular view. It’s better to have someone to blame other than ourselves. And we’ll spend valuable time arguing about who will profit from alternate energy (T. Boone Pickens, Al Gore, etc.) rather than allowing our capitalists to make money doing something we really need done…
I am agreeing with what’s being said here. The reality is that what you guys are saying is pretty on point. We can fill this discussion with a lot of Bush and war bashing (deserved or not) and gas prices still have very little to do with the war and quite a bit to do with politics and poor planning.
I’ve never once said anything against Bush, mostly because I’ve got that whole mentality of not knocking our President, but I said to Jake: If gas lowers after we get a new president I’m going to be REALLY pissed at Bush!
I think that the price of oil has gone down because oil is starting to be produced in Iraq. It received very little attention from the media because it was a positive story coming out of Iraq. It has been a couple of months since this happened and the only thing I read was that friends of Bush had investments in the companies that were producing the oil.
Brandy, that act is that the price of oil may actually go down for a bit, but there is nothing that tells us that oil will go back down to where it has been.
Rudd…amen!
GI, the media has done a terrible job of telling us all sides of the story. they seem to be much more interested in the shock value of things. Something going good in Ira would definitely not help their cause. Too bad for them, good is still happening. they can’t stop that.
When Jake and I lived in Missouri, on base the gas was 0.98!! I remember when we thought paying $1.50 was a lot. Yeah, I don’t think we’ll back to that, EVER.
im on “E” again

All of us Texans are hoarding the oil in our bid to take over the world.
Seriously.
