Going To The Fair…Day 1

So the first day has ended. A ton of you joined me on twitter to follow everything going on. That’s awesome. If you still want to join me, head over here.

I promised that each night I would give you some updates. No big revelations for today. It was kind of mellow I had only one full band and my day consisted mostly of Bluegrass. That’s fine, but only 2 of the 5 Bluegrass bands, actually knew how to play bluegrass. The highlight today was the Emmon’s Sisters. 4 Sisters aged 13-18. Great voices and great musicians. I get to mix them again on Thursday.

Anyway, here are some pics of the day…

My office for the week…

This was my opening band. They define themselves as an “Old School Hillbilly Bluegrass” band. The median age is 92 and there is no on in charge. Welcome to the fair :)

This was my dinner tonight. I get fed by the main stage and headline artists. Whatever is going on catering wise for them, I get to enjoy. Tonight was Salmon, Rice, Chicken w/Pasta, fruit and an amazing chocolate cake. Very nice. Not like this…

This is seriously 18 inches long. Fair food is a work of art. Only one person was eating this (yes, I asked if I could take a pic). I plan to give you a pic a day of the amazing Jackson County Fair cuisine.

Fireworks ended the night. They also do fireworks the closing night.

Well, there’s a bit of day 1. Come on back tomorrow for some more updates and pics. I may even be working in some video…we’ll see :)

    Let see…

I see some Lexicon reverb, ART EQ, are those DBX units on top? and Crest for power… I can’t identify that console, what is it?

Looks like the fair has a nice budget, you should be having fun… They should have sprung for some fiber…

OK, so I finally pushed myself a little bit, getting out of my comfort zone on, “This is what I did today,” sort of blogging. If you have a moment, you might like reading my thoughts on “Pray-paring for 20 somethings.”

PS: I LOVE FAIR FOOD!!! Did they have the famous scones? I love those scones. With jam. And lots of butter. Now I think I need to go for a run.

Tyler, I am actually doing well. I have hit 191 and am hovering around 192 right now. Can’t really “diet” during this week, but I am definitely eating correctly. So I am down 21 lbs!

Kristen, check the new post :)

Ric, tomorrow I am on the hunt for funnel cake!

    Buddy, here’s the gear list…
    Mains Lacoustic
    Subs Community
    Power Lab Grubben
    Speaker Processing BSS
    Monitors Radian Wedges
    Console Crest X8 – 24 channel
EFX TC M one and Lexicon PCM 90
Comp’s DBX 1066’s and some Crest Comp’s as well
Plus, Aphex noise gate and some Art and DBX 1/3 octave EQ’s

The Crest power in the rack you see is for a monitor mix for me. And, fiber would be nice :)

Brandy, the fries are amazing, but they seriously killed about 30 potatoes for that thing.

Elaine, I am going to look hard for funnel cake tomorrow. I’ll see what I can come up with :)

Buddy, ya, you can kind of see the rig in the pics up there.

I am running 2-15XT’s. Nice setup for my tent. I’ve got a medium sized space, but it does help to get the sound up and over the rides :)

I have no issues with levels at all. those things can kick.
